We discovered Nala (the cat who loves snow!) when a Simon’s Cat fan shared a link to Nala’s YouTube video on our latest Facebook post featuring our new film ‘Snow Cat’. (We do read comments when we have time!).
We absolutely loved watching Nala go crazy for snow balls with her gorgeous big fluffy coat and tail. Nala is five years old and lives with her ‘parents’ Alexander and Maryon, in Norway. We got in touch with them to find out more as part of our Simon’s Cat Asks series…
SC: What’s your name?
NSC: My name is Nala. I’ve heard that it might have something to do with The Lion King movie. I guess I should watch it one day.
SC: How did you become popular on the internet?
NSC: My dad posted a video of me and him in the snow on Reddit that got some attention. Then he decided to share a video of my Snowy adventures on Youtube and it went viral. Later, when I thought things had calmed down, I disturbed my hooman playing video games and it happened again!
SC: How did you meet Alexander and Maryon?
NSC: My mom picked me up in a beautiful place in the northwestern parts of Norway. Then she met dad and we moved to Oslo. We have lived here for 18 months and I love it here!
SC: What’s your favourite sleeping place?
NSC: Hmm. The couch is good, but the bed is so soft and amazing. I have to share it though. At first they tried to keep it away from me, but I learned how to open the door. Hah! No one can keep the bed away from me. When my hoomans wake up in the morning I have it all by myself!
SC: What do you like playing with the most?
NSC: Toys, threads and bottle caps are fun to play with, but nothing beats a big white snowball. I can’t get enough of it! But it’s more fun to play together than alone.
SC: Of course! We should have realised that was a silly question!
SC: What would you say Alexander and Maryon finds as your most annoying habit?
NSC: Hah! Maybe the part where I insist on playing outside in the snow during winter. It adds up to quite a few times every day. That said, jumping on my mom while she sleeps might top that. She doesn’t seem too fond of it when I do it, that’s for sure. Fortunately she seems to forget about the whole thing the next day.
SC: And your most lovable trait?
NSC: I love to cuddle! If I find one of mom or dad watching TV or play video games I usually jump on them, get their attention and leap roll down to the crook of their arm. After a while, I might start to snore.
SC: What do you consider your most memorable moment?
NSC: The first time I experienced snow was a special moment for me. At first it was strange and scary, but then I learned that these white flakes were so delicious and fun to play with! I’ve made so many new friends the last year because of it, could it get any better?
SC: Well, let us know if you progress from snowballs to making a Snow Cat! Thank you Nala, it’s been a pleasure speaking to you.
Nala’s videos have been viewed over 10 million times from various online sources. Including 3 million times on her YouTube channel.
Alexander explains “Reuters shared Nala’s latest video to 189 different TV shows (mostly in the US) – It’s safe to say she’s been around the world! : )”
