Simon's Cat Your Pet Drawn - Dixie

About Dixie in her owner’s own words: “Dixie is loaded with personality. She is a mutt with a mix of terrier, maybe some whippet or Italian greyhound (she is fast as lightning), a dash of golden lab and who knows what else.”

“She was adopted about 4 and 1/2 years ago from the Briarcliff Manor (New York) SPCA. She was, at the time, about 4 months old, so now she’s not quite 6.”

“Dixie was brought to the SPCA along with other dogs from a shelter in Georgia as part of an effort to rescue dogs who might otherwise be euthanised. She had been at the shelter in Briarcliff Manor for one day when I met her and it was love at first sight.”

“She is smart and has a sense of humour although she can be extremely bull-headed when she wants. For example, if we are in the middle of a walk and she spots a chipmunk, she is quite insistent on pursuit.”

“She also is very opinionated and is quite clear what route she wants to take on any given day when we walk. If I stand still she then turns the direction in which she wants to go—usually towards a French fry, bone, piece of pizza or other foodstuff someone has dropped.”

“She is very food-driven and loves carrots and peas. One of Dixie’s favorite poems appears in a book of poems written by dogs. It reads:

You gonna eat that?
You gonna eat that?
You gonna eat that?
I’ll eat that!”
